I have the following powerbook:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
I put in a new hard drive and now the power button will not work to start the machine. I am able to get the machine to boot only by gently rocking and pushing down the ribbon cable connector from the top case to the logic board (See image below), while holding the power button down.
Once the machine starts up it's good to go and everything works, including the keyboard and track pad. However, if I shut down and try to power up again, I have to open up the case and rock the connector (holding the power button) until it powers up again.
Obviously there is a problem but I don't know if the problem lies with the case, button or logic board. I have inspected the pins on the connectors, the ribbon cable and can't see any damage. I can see if the keyboard/trackpad also didn't work but I am typing from the machine with the problem so can it really be something like one bad pin on either connector? This doesn't make much sense to me.
Any idea on how to fix this problem or has anyone had a similar issue? I have scoured the net but can not find anyone else who has had this issue.
