Hello

My macbook pro mid 2009 model has gone though so many power cables, this would be the 5th one in so many years.

The magasafe power cable works fine, but they all end up splitting.

Is there anything I can do to make the cable safe?

Do I have to get a new one yet again?

I have to wonder what ordeal you putting those power supplies through. I have never had a power supply or cable go bad.

Which power cable? From the receptacle to the brick or from the brick to the Macbook? Have you tried cleaning the cables and then treating them with ArmorAll or other plastic protectant once a year?

Never done anything to the cables to protect them.

No idea why or what causes them to break, the one I have downstairs feels waxy, and had that one for 20 months, the ones that break are in my room and they feel rubbery.

It gets damaged from the brick to the megsafe.

I've had one or two split near the magsafe connector, due to heat I suspect. Otherwise no problem except for vacuum cleaners or pets trying to eat them. I still have 2008 and 2009 vintage power adapters in daily use.

Does anyone know where I can get a cheap power adapter for my macbook pro (mid 2009)?

I know this topic is old now, but I found sugru has fixed and made my cable safe to use again.
