power comparison between topline Macbook Pro and topline iMac 27 inch

I have been waiting for several years to update my iMac and therefore anxiously awaited this update. I have also considered going to a macbook pro with a thunderbolt display and wanted to see how the two would compare.

I apologize if this has been discussed already but I am just trying to get a baseline understanding of the major difference is hardware.

I hear that the iMac is using mobile GPU, does that extend to other hardware? Is the ivy bridge different?

I like the idea of having a portable computer IF I can make it as robust and dependable as my 7 year old iMac has been.
