So I recently relocated and I can't find my power cord anywhere.

I see some after market ones on Amazon but unsure if they are ok to use.

Has anyone used any after market power cords previously?

I am sure the apple ones are an arm and a leg.

iMacs use standard power cords. There is nothing special about them. You can use nearly any cord that fits between the iMac and the wall.

What do you mean standard? Like another device might use the same one?

Nearly all computers and many other electronics use the same kind of cord. Look at the plug in the back of your iMac, you'll very likely recognize it and may even have a few spares or unused ones around.

Just did that and yes it's very standard but I don't think I see anything in my house that currently utilizes that. But this helps as I can just buy a universal power cord on Amazon though.

I appreciate that

say it's not so... surely as it is a mac not a windows machine, you would need a quality cable like this

And while you are at it, perhaps upgrade your ethernet cable and usb as well

BTW: I am still trying to find those elusive gold core connector batteries for my apple magic mouse.. heard they make the mouse movement that much smoother
