Power Issues?

I was just watching a video and I noticed that my keyboard backlight and screen would lose power or shutoff for a split second. I'm not connected to the power cord, but that shouldn't matter because the notebook shouldn't do this in the first place. So what exactly is wrong and how do I fix this or prevent it in the future?
