Power led question/problem

Hi,

I today found out again that sometimes when my mbp is sleeping, the led stops pulsing. It pulses in the beginning but later when I check my laptop the led isn't pulsing anymore. Tho it seems that the laptop is sleeping because when I open the lid it wakes up.

What might be causing it?
