its off when computer is on.
it lights up when computer is displaysleep.
its normal when computer sleeps.

so, first is wrong. what? :(

That's the way it's designed to work. It's off when the laptop is on and the display is on because you should be able to tell that that's the case. It's on when the display goes to sleep so you know it's not just open and powered off.

im almost certain it used to be on all the time :S or maybe im confusing it with the tower. :S

thehellobob is correct.

The power light on desktops is lit when the machine is on and pulses when asleep.
