Power Mac 8x CD Burner in PC?

I just replaced my PowerMac Digital Audio's 8x CD burner with a Pioneer DVD burner drive and I was wondering if the Apple CD Burner could be used in a Windows PC? I've got an old with a 4x burner and 8x is better than 4x. But does it need a special driver? The old PC is running Win98SE and Linux.
