Posting this for those looking for a "super rare" :) system....

Power Mac G4 works 100% great! No cracks everything looks great all original parts! Ready to boot up right now!

Hey, It's on Craigslist, so you know its trusted.

http://reading.craigslist.org/sys/6029673960.html

MODS - Not mine!
Price to sell too! $150!

I guess the two I have at work that look exactly like it are probably just rare instead of super rare.

What's so rare? I got one of those for $0 a few years back. Come on, a Sawtooth shouldn't fetch $150, $50-75 is much more reasonable IMO. They're good but they've lost most of their upgradability since parts are too rare and expensive nowadays..

There are two groups of people right now selling Macs.

One group is ignorant about Apple and has no awareness that there ever was an Intel transition. So, anything with an Apple on it they see as $$$. They'll advertise as PowerMac G5 Pro or Mac Pro G5 and tell you it can run El Capitan.

The other group knows, but is banking that the buyer doesn't. By the time the buyer realizes they've bought a Mac that can't run Snow Leopard, let alone El Capitan the seller has cut off all contact.

I would put the seller of this Mac in the second group.

Hack is simply pointing out that the seller's ad is ridiculous.

I think I see a crack in the first two pictures. The upper front case screw has a crack coming out of it.

If you'll pls allow me to gatecrash your thread.
Now THIS is a really RARE G4. Because of the price. 17" PowerBook G4 Price 500€ ($530)!!
I'm half tempted to call his bluff and offer 30.

I would argue that there are a third group of people too. Ones that just want to share PowerPC older Macs and tell the buyer what they're capable of, and accept a reasonable price. I think of myself in that group (whenever I do sell any of my older Macs). :)

I thought about that, but other than here and a few other places do you really know anyone who fits that group?

We are so niche as to be non-existant compared to the other two. I get it, but it's extremely rare when you run across someone outside of our little world who advocates for PowerPC and knows the value of what they are selling.

That is definitely true. Aside from my family who knows a lot about Macs, and here, it's rare to find many people that know about stuff more than "it's an Apple". Sad, but true. Even for newer stuff. :/

There is actually one Sawtooth variant that I'd class as legitimately rare, and I'd probably pay the price asked here if not more than that for the particular variant.

I've never seen one, though. I have a new in box power supply for it(the key thing that makes it different) but that's as close as I've been able to come. Since there's no real distinguishing characteristic, though, there may be some out there where people don't know what they have.

If everyone who has a Sawtooth wants to check and see if by some chance system profiler reports it as a PowerMac 3,2, please feel free to email me :)

The fact that I can't find mention of a 3,2 on mactracker and never heard of this I'm going to go home and boot all my Sawtooths and see if I have one.

Can you elaborate on why the Sawtooth in the listing is of the more rare variety?

That`s a crazy price! Answer the ad and suggest that there is a typo with one 0 too many.
I did that yesterday with the ad I saw, and the seller replied there was no error, and the price indicated was intentional. I politely asked if he could eventually tell me when it sells and the final price. (I doubt if he will).

It's not an error, he put the ad more and more times on that site, I guess that's because he is not able to sell it for that crazy price LOL
To justify the price he says it is mint new and it has the box and manuals, cds, etc...
