I tried turning on my Power Mac this morning. When I pushed the start button, it lit up but the computer did not start up. So I followed the troubleshooting instructions on apple.com and reset the PMU button. This worked right away.

A couple of hours later, I then connected a new external hard drive to the USB but the icon was not showing up on the desktop so I restarted. But now it doesn't start up again! I tried to reset the PMU several times and it still doesn't start up. No chime, no screen, nothing. The power button just flashes when I push it.

I've had this G4 for a long time, 6 years to be exact and it still works great. Until now...Could it be the battery? Sometimes the date and time resets to 1970. Once I change the date and time, it usually stays correct for a long period of time. Or maybe the power cable needs to be replaced?

Any suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
