A while back I bought a DC 2.0 G5 as a collectors item. It arrived fully working but with the front top handle severely damaged. I unfortunately ended up putting a hideous bolt through it to straighten it but ruined the asthetic appeal I largely bought it for.

However, I have recently bought an older and broken Power mac G5 because I want to turn the case into and ATX mod and make that into my gaming PC because to me, it's the nicest looking tower case out there.

But of course, the UPS rugby team also managed to bend a handle quite badly even though it was heavily packaged and had "fragile" written on it about 30 times.

Is there somebody here who has real experience fixing these aluminium cases? Is it possible to ever make them like they once were, as in virtually new looking? Since I bought this for the case, I new it to look as good as possible.

(If you don't know for sure don't just tell me to "bend it, how hard can it be?" I can assure you, very, very hard ;) )

Thanks

I had a small bend on the back left foot of my old dualie. I tried a couple of methods of knocking it back into place. The first was to take a small timber hammer to it. I put a couple tea towels over the foot, laid the G5 flat & gently tried knocking it back into shape. It took a very long time & was an incredibly tedious job - but I managed to get some sort of counter bend in the aluminium. It still wasn't ''virtually new looking'' but it was an improvement. So then I went out & bought some heavy duty, industrial metal glue. I coated the inside of the foot & put a load of weight, pushing down on the foot in the hope that the glue would dry & stick to the casing. It didn't.

There isn't a magical method of fixing it. It's just one of those things. Go ahead & try the hammer method. It'll improve it but it won't get it looking mint at all. You've also got to watch out for the centre of the foot bowing as you hammer.

Thanks for the advice. I've tried using a mallet, hammer and vice before but it never made a recognisable impact and the case always jumped back to where it was before.

I'll give this a go. :)
