Long story short, my dual core 2.3 PowerMac G5 is mute. No sound whatsoever. It works perfectly in every other respect.
No chime, no output on line, headphones, or digital, all tested.
AHT found no issues.
Two sound cards are identified in 'About this Mac' - Burr-Brown (al outputs) and Crystal Semi digital input.
Exact same symptoms as this thread, which seems to have not been resolved:

I have not removed the processor and inspected the area of the logic board around the output jacks, but I have reinstalled Tiger, reset SMU and PMU, and run a basic system configuration with nothing else connected. No luck.
I absolutely cannot remember when I last heard a chime, and this hasn't had speakers attached for many years, so causality is unknown. No working theories. No more ideas!

Two questions:
- Any inkling as to which element on the logic board may have failed? I'm reasonably competent at recapping dead old things but a PMG5 logic board is a bit modern
- Were there any sound cards compatible with Mac OS 10.4 or 10.5 on the PMG5 with PCI-Express? Are there any aftermarket solutions?
