power mac G5 vs. white macbook?

I would say yes, unless the MB is from 2006.

I would just stay with the MB then, unless you really need the expandability of the desktop.

PPC is dead. Look for a 2006 Mac Pro instead if you really need a desktop.

Powermac Quads are still great machines. Faster and more stable still on 10.5 Leopard than my supposedly "faster" 2009 Mac Mini.

The Quad G5 still beats most new Macs. For the money it is a great buy, and for Final Cut and editing.
