One of my neighbors gave away a power mac G5, but I've no idea if it still works since there is no power cord or any peripherals really. If it does work how much would the actual tower be worth (without any peripherals assuming I supply a power cord and the specifications were not upgraded beyond their original factory build?) Also, how will the cost change as a function of time (say in 5 years)?

It's worth next to nothing. Those listings on eBay don't sell. I was going to sell mine last summer before it finally died. None of them were selling on eBay then or now. I threw it in the trash.

Please everyone, keep trashing your G5's then one day mine will be worth a lot of money and I will be rich!!!!!!

If you don't want it anymore advertise on free for collection or pay for delivery.

It not whats worth but what you can do with it.

I do plenty with my non-late 2005 G5(s).

Sure but the PCIe ones are the best value buy at this point if you want to have an example of the PPC platform in your collection. A Quad with 16GB Ram and a GTX 7800 is quite a good machine even by modern standards.

An old 1.8 GHz single core with 256MB Ram is a far cry from that.

I love powerpcs, but the main reason for me not to buy a G5, is cause they waste a lot of energy. those G5 are great cpus but the architecture that support them are not so good.
