The chord a mac makes when it is turned on?
what is it?
one of my teachers wants to know and I can't figure out a way to find out.
:apple:dong!:apple:
**turns on**
what note is it?

I just restarted my 12" Powerbook running Tiger and it plays a G flat major chord (I have perfect pitch, that's the only reason I know...). I wonder if different versions of the OS, or maybe different machines, play different chords?

...maybe he didn't recall ;)

Is your startup sound different to the mp3 in the article?

DG

I'm pretty sure different machines from different times play different chords since the start-up chime is hardwired into the computer and not part of the software. I remember seeing a website at one point that had all the different start-up chimes Apple had ever used.

The 12" PowerBooks should use the same C Major chord that's been in use for a while now. Maybe yours is just feeling miserable :)

Yeah, probably. I try not to talk about the soon-to-be-coming new MBP in its presence, but I think it's starting to realize that it's days are numbered...

And just to clarify, it is the same chord, just at a lower pitch.

I'm not sure, as I'm at work and can't listen to it yet. I'll check it out when I get home.
