My iMac was sleeping and a power outage hit. The next day I booted up my iMac and I heard cracking noises in my LCD monitor. Now I have all these distorted pixels. Vertical lines of missing pixels. IS THIS PERMANENT?

Power outage led to screwed up monitor

I would call Applecare. You could have experienced a power surge (usually associated with power outages).

Oh wow, thank god. It's not permanent. I unplugged the power cord to let the monitor take a break. Then I gave my screen a 10 minute massage with a soft cloth =) And here we are, monitor good as new.
Thats good it works now, but the cracking noises would be enough for me to give Applecare a ring-a-ling just to make sure all is well.
