I have the MS Office pack with power point and can make the presentations i want.

Problem comes up when i want to save it as a movie file and it loses pretty much all the animation and timing.

Does anyone know another program that might let me build and animate slides that has better movie integration?

And for as cheap as possible... of course.

Apple Keynote

It runs better on a Mac than PowerPoint does, is better integrated with your iLife apps, and it is generally agreed that Keynote presentations look way better than PowerPoint presentations.

Pages, the counterpart to Keynote, is a very nice page-layout app. Pages and Keynote are packaged together.

I second Keynote.

I've used it for several presentations in my college classes, and at least one person always wants to know where I found those "Powerpoint templates." It's a classy app.

is it easy to burn to a dvd? thats really the key, i own a hair salon and we just ordered an lcd screen thats should be here sometime next week and i want to make mini product commercials and stuff like that i can burn to a dvd and show on there.

Yes, all you have to do is use iDVD.

so do i just go file > export >iDVD ?

when i do this, it keeps getting hung up after the second slide...
second slide has a 4min29sec movie on it. the progress bar keeps spinning, but the preview isn't moving at all

Try exporting to quicktime first, then manually importing the quicktime file into iDVD.

Whenever Apple software crashes, you should be prompted to "send bug report" to Apple. I usually try to do this.

Also, it might have a problem if you are putting video files into your presentations that are not actually QuickTime files, such as WMV, AVI, or Divx files. If your file is not a *real* QuickTime file (a file QuickTime can open without third party extensions) try converting it to a QuickTime file first.

I would especially expect this of WMVs running under Flip4Mac, since the free version Flip4Mac does not allow you to export video, thus the crash when Keynote is trying to export to iDVD.

The video was a rip with handbrake... I ended up just removing the video slides and it seems to be importing ::slowly:: into iDVD.

Right now I'm wishing i had something faster then a 2.0 macbook

*cough* mac pro *cough*

It's slow because the size of the video that is exported is enormous, and translating all the transitions and stuff also adds a bit to the slowness.

okay, so i made something and now it wont burn...
moves to quicktime and then iDVD but then it gets stuck at the encoding process, it is something i put in the movie? or is it the DVDs i have (staples DVD-R)?

ps. there is no video in the presentation, it's all just still images that dissolve transition

What are the Error Messages? Also, try using the "Best Quality" setting in iDVD preferences. I have had much better luck burning with that option selected.

this is what is coming up, and this has come up now with two different projects.
