My watch has been 'dead' for four days now, and I can still press the button on the side and toggle the time. I thought that was pretty impressive. I definitely won't be taking advantage of power reserve because of this.

That is the whole point of power reserve.

Not exactly true (in my experience), it prompts you to enter, but doesn't do it automatically.

That's only if you cancel the prompt when prompted for power reserve. However, if you leave it alone to die (as in the OP's case), it'll automatically enter power reserve on its own.

The OP is mistakenly thinking the AW isn't in power reserve mode when it actually is. Just showing the time means it's in power reserve.
