Did a 25.9km walk today so I thought I would put on my Polar H10 and turn on power save exercise mode.

Using watchOS 6.0.1 and iOS 13.1.3 (I see that maybe old news now :p) I found that the always on display didn't turn off as per the note saying it would in the watch app.

FYI. Started the workout with 99% and finished with about 65% and because it was hidously muddy this took nearly 5 hours with the watch in exercise mode on the Walking setting.

I'm not unhappy about that outcome, just though I would share something positive :)

That is awesome. GPS was running on the Watch? That would mean that GPS can run for almost 15 hours if you disable the heart rate.

Yeah, the tracking was done via the watch AFAIK, the iPhone was with me of course but it didn't diminish much in power. I remember doing this walk with my S0 back when it launched and it gave up before I got to the end.. the external HRM is definitely a winner for battery life.

Hmm, are you sure it wasn’t using phone’s GPS? One of these days I’ll test it. Thanks

Wonder why it didn’t switch off AOD...i did a 40 min walk and mine dropped 7%...so guessing having heart rate on and power saving mode off didn’t hurt it too much

I think from experience with S0 and S3 doing this route that a major win is offloading the HRM stuff myself. This is my obersvation and I'm not making random claims of course :/
