Dear Community,

I've just bought an iPad Pro 13" M4 and am now looking for the optimal power supply.
For me, "optimal" doesn't mean "most bang for the buck", but rather I'm looking for a reliable companion that will reliably power the iPad for many years with a healthy compromise between charging power and battery-saving charging behaviour - I've found these characteristics best in the original Apple power adapters so far.
The "no-brainer" in this category would probably be the Apple 20W charger, which was apparently still included until the last generation. But I don't want to buy that again - I already have it for my iPhone and am now looking for a solution that offers some added value for mobile scenarios.

I'm leaning towards a 2-port charger that is more compact than a large multi-port power supply unit, but can still supply the Watch or iPhone or (if necessary) the MacBook as well as the iPad from one socket. So far on the shortlist:

  • Apple 35W 2-port charger - perhaps takes up a bit of space for the power...
  • Mophie 45W 2-port charger - also sold by Apple, but is it as reliable as an Apple power supply?
  • Belkin 65W 2-port charger

I'd love to hear your opinions, experiences and tips!

A great charger. My daily driver as well, though I would probably get the updated 67W version. A little shorter and stubbier for a more secure fit to the wall. My 735 has a tendency to fall out by its own weight on looser plugs (older hotels and airplane seats). The 47W two-port (Anker 523) is good too.

A tad gimmicky, but I do want to try this too

Are you saying you didn't get a charger in the box? I just purchased the M4 iPad Pro 13" with 512 GB and it included an Apple 20W charger in the box. Still, I feel cheated considering my less expensive M2 Pro MacBook Air came with a two port 35W charger with foldable plug.

But no point in complaining about the Apple Tax—especially in this price range LOL. So, I just bought a Ugreen Nexode 45W USB C GaN Charger-2 Port charger. Their website had a 30% discount and free shipping when I bought it earlier today.

If you purchased an iPad out of the U.S., there's a chance you didn't get a charger.

Update: This appears to be due to the “Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment” rules in the EU. It’s applicable in the UK because it predates Brexit.

Apple unveiled its new iPad Pro and iPad Air lineups today, alongside updates to the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard. For customers in the UK and other countries across Europe, however, there’s a downside: Apple is no longer including a charger in the box with the new iPad Air and iPad Pro.

According to product listings in the UK and other countries across Europe, iPad Pro and iPad Air sold in those regions only include a USB-C cable in the box. There is no USB-C wall plug included this time around. This is a change from the previous-generation iPad Pro and iPad Air, which did include both the USB-C cable and wall plug in the box.

As far as chargers go, I went with a Charger for everything including my 15in MBA.

I was actually surprised to get a charger with my M4 11 inch. Don’t really want/need it… it’s going into the drawer of unused chargers that at some point I’ll take to the local used computer store in Seattle to resell or recycle as they see fit.

Also have a bin full of USB cables that I don’t use. I’m convinced I started with 2 or 3, and they multiplied like rabbits or Gremlins.

I am getting ready to move and went through a fairly large storage tub in my office closet filled with old cables, chargers, and all kinds of electronic gadget odds and ends and ended up taking 85% of it to a electronics recycling center. I honestly have no idea how I ever got so many freaking usb cables - maybe your Gremlins theory applies to my closet as well!
