POWER5 eServer will be announced next week

CNET reported POWER5 based iSeries server will be announced on Monday.
IBM on Monday will introduce its first Power5-based iSeries models, the i5 520, with one or two processors, and the i5 570, with one to four processors, sources said. The new systems will bring lower prices to the iSeries lineage--with one 520 model, which will include versions of IBM's WebSphere e-commerce software and its DB2 database, costing $11,500.
As predicted by Computer Business Review, IBM will ship low-end server with SCM (Single Chip Module). Squadron-H using MCM (Multi Chip Module) POWER5 will be shipped later.

Am I the only one who remembers that the next chip in the line for Apple is being simultaneously designed with the Power5? If that's true, and the Power5s are about to ship... I'm about to get it from the people who whine about IBM

We could very well see the 980 as a replacement for the 970 at WWDC, if this is true:
The first i5 520 and 570 products will be generally available June 11, sources said.

Then, in the third quarter, IBM is expected to introduce a new midrange model for cost-conscious buyers, the i5 550, with as many as four processors. Also at that time, the stacking of four-processor modules used in the i5 570 will extend that system to a 16-processor size.

When is WWDC again?

Ahh thatwendigo, your optimism is always refreshing, especially in your ongoing counter-DHM crusade, but this time I think you have stretched too far.

My .02c?

Dual 3.0, 2.6 & 2.2 models will be announced at WWDC, 2.2 and 2.6 shipping straight away, 3.0 not actually arriving until 3 months later, all still 970's.

Oh and a G5 iMac or something infinitely cooler to replace it (as the 'and one more thing…')

;)
