It's the irony of it that gets me more than anything else. I'm curious to see if they can determine a reason for his heart attack, given his healthy lifestyle.

It was the same when Jim Fixx, who wrote "The Book of Running" and helped popularize jogging, died of a heart attack while running.
And there was lots of talk when Dr. Robert Atkins, diet guru, was reported to be overweight at the time of his death last year (although it was later reported that the weight was a side effect after the fall last year that eventually proved fatal).
People promoting health ideas aren't immune to illnesses, accidents, or other health problems that we all face. But it's perfectly understandable that many of us like to pass the jokes around when these things happen to somebody with a "healthier than thou" attitude.

Seems to me that in a lot of cases the motivation for middle aged people to be super health conscious is that they don't want to die young like their dad.

That's very sad, death is often unexpected. Even those that live a healthy life style can have heart disease. It can just be genetic and with no prior symptoms. He is lucky in the fact there he didn't have to suffer a long illness like most. I pray that his family and friends amy be comforted.
