powerbook disk drive= blocked?

I have a PowerBookG4 12", When i try to put a disk into the drive there is a metal piece that is blocking it. I've heard that this is a "dropped support chamber"? but i don't know- should I try any internal tricks before having the outside looked at? i.e... could it be locked or something?
