Help me please!

I copied all the files I had from a windows computer to a SimpleTech signature mini drive, and it totaled around 16gb of stuff. Next I moved them all to my PowerBook G3 (read -- cut and paste), and then proceeded to format the drive to a mac os extended journaled. The drive seems to work better now, but I can't get the stuff back on it in one chunk! It just stops, and gets stuck at around 440mb. What I did is created a disk image of the drive on my desktop, and now I'm trying to copy it back... I've trying copying te whole image, restoring to the drive with Disk Utility, and just plain copying the files from the mounted disk image to the drive, but there's no go. It stops copying about 1 eighth the way thru. It still looks like it's trying to copy, but there's no disk activity. I can't stop the process, and I've tried restarting finder but I end up having to force restart the whole computer! What gives?
