Hello people, snatched a PDQ Wallstreet 266mhz with charger and two batteries for very little money.

The hinges are still pretty solid fortunately but the screen is broken and I don't get any backlight when powered on.

The laptop chimes and hdd is spinning thereafter I hear a broken glass noise.

Anyone can suggest a replacement panel, 14" XGA CCFL other than a LT141X2-124 ?

Maybe an old T21 screen? as its the same XGA 14.1 and usually model UB141X03

I also would assume that despite the broken LCD, backlight would come on.

I will take the bezel off in the meanwhile and test the inverter output

Many thanks!

IIRC if a Powerbook G3 plays the broken glass noise (which is a "hardware error" warning sound), both the screen and the backlight won't turn on.

For replacement screens, it depends on which connector the screen uses. I've had luck with swapping Dell / Toshiba screens into my Pismo as they use the same 20-pin connector. Things to look out for are where the screen connector is located (it can be mounted on different areas of the panel), the length of the inverter cable (IIRC Powerbook G3s need a slightly longer than usual cable) and the type of inverter connector.

Try finding out the type of connector that the LT141X2-124 has and use panelook.com to find other displays with the same connector (the link is for the UB141X03).

If you can, make sure that the replacement screen uses the same inverter voltage.

As for the broken glass noise, it usually indicates a RAM issue. The RAM slots are on the CPU board - one on the top and one underneath. You'll need to take the keyboard and an EMI shield off to get to it.

See this article from Apple and the service manual.

Thank you a lot for your answer.

The PowerBook is now alive, removing the bottom ram module did the trick, although it has installed a 256mb module, it only sees 128. Probably due to the fact that is a double side module.

Now off looking for a replacement LCD.

Many thanks again
