Hi everyone;

Recently I bought a 12" powerbook G4. Although it have a really nice keyboard, my machine have a Japanese/English keyboard that confuses my brain when I'm typing. So, I'm thinking in replace it with a traditional English keyboard. How do I know the specifications of the keyboard? There is some code to identify it? The others powerbook G4 (15 or 17") keyboards are compatible?

Stay safe buddies!
Cheers!

Just do an eBay search for a keyboard by the model number of your Mac.

15" and 17" model keyboards are not compatible. They aren't even compatible between 15" and 17" and some of them aren't compatible between the different models of the same size. All of them may look the same, but internally they are different.

The 12" keyboard requires that you remove two keys in order to remove two keyboard screws, which then allows you to remove the keyboard itself. Both the 15" and the 17" don't have this - you remove their keyboards by undoing several screws underneath the top case.

@eyoungren Could you elaborate on this? Perhaps I am ignorant, but I was going to swap out a 15" DLSD keyboard with one from a 17" DLSD, so I would like to know why this won't work.

Thank you...

I'm wrong on that one. I looked through the iFixit guide and it looks like the same keyboard (for the DLSDs at least). The trackpad connector to the LB is definitely different, but it's the keyboard itself you want and that seems compatible.

However, between the 12" and the rest, it's not. The 12" has those two screws on the front side.

between the 12" aluminum they should be compatible? I mean between all models of the A1010 and A1104.
