Quite simply:
I'm heading off to Uni soon to read Electronic Engineering. My desktop is fine for hardware development, but I will be using my G4 for notes in lectures and general use. I believe it's a Rev D, 15" with 2GB RAM and 10.5.8.

It's second hand and the battery and charger are knackered. Unfortunately it also looks like it's been dropped once as well and so it's possible the hard drive might be a bit worse for wear (though it's worked fine so far).

I would like to increase R/W performance as well as possibly increasing the battery life too (somewhat of a paradox). I've seen mixed views as to whether an SSD is beneficial or not. It should be noted that storage capacity is of no concern to me as I have a NAS. The only things which are on my G4 are a few commonly used applications (Logic Pro, M$ Office, Xcode).

So really I just wanted to know if people had any first-hand experience with an SSD on the G4. I'm well aware that SSD performance varies greatly, as a result I am looking at either a Runcore or a Super Talent drive or this 60GB OWC drive:

Also, should the power button light up? i've noticed that the power symbol is translucent plastic, though I've never seen one light up before.

Thanks all,
Mike
