Hello all! Recently a co-worker gave me a 17" PowerBook G4, saying it had a problem with the display. It was free, so I took it. I don't know anything about it - it came with the original restore disks and such, but I just haven't had the time to mess around with it. All I've done is boot it to the login screen and observed the issue. I was hoping one of you more knowledgeable people might be able to point me in the right direction as to what the issue is, and if it would be worth my time/money to fix it. Thanks for your time!

Could be LCVDS cable.

I've had this exact same issue. Replaced cable, mangled back of display. It's not easy to get the back off.

I'd suggest just replacing the entire screen. On a 17, it's a lengthy BUT simple process and you have plenty of room.
