Hi everyone,

So I posted a thread about a dysfunctional optical drive. I've had to remove the DVD-rw out of the powerbook g4.

My question now is: is it absolutely necessary to have an optical drive installed in the computer in order for it to work?

Will the computer be looking for the optical drive to restart? Or is it okay to now boot the computer without the optical drive, while I wait for a new one to arrive?

Thanks!

Agreed. It should be just fine without its optical drive. If I recall correctly, I believe there are mods out there to entirely and permanently replace the optical drive with another hard drive.

You didn't have to make a second thread though. You could have edited the title of your previous one and kept it going. Though, it's not like the PPC forum is busy and crowded. Just future reference, at any rate.
