I have one of the first Powermac G4's, with the 1Ghz and Superdrive. So, obviously it's a little older, and out of warranty.

The Superdrive decided to no longer work. It takes a disk, makes a few noises, then spits it out. It did this before for a few months, then one day it worked. It worked for a few months, and now it doesn't.

Two questions.

1. Anyone have any idea what's wrong, or if there is anything that can be done to fix it?

2. Any suggestions for an external firewire CD Burner or DVD Burner compatible with OSX?

I appreciate any help. You can email me directly at mcrain_il@mac.com or post here. I'd like to get this fixed or figure a solution because I'm not ready to pull the trigger on a new laptop.
