powerbook->imac conversion

A friend of mine has an out of warrantee 15" powerbook 1Ghz which he doesn't really need, it also has part of a 3.5mm headphone jack stuck in the 'phones port so he may not sell it, and i'm trying to convince him to detach the screen (which is really loose and needs fixing anyway), flip the bottom part around to the back and make it an enclosure, with the cd drive sticking out the top and extra HD's in the case, then making it VESA mountable... like an iMac G5 in vague shape. Just wondering what you guys thought of the idea ^.^
 
i dont see the point, the 3.5mm jack could be easyly fixed if your willing to do such a drastic mod, why turn a laptop into a desktop, when you can use it as such anyway.

he actually got a new powerbook to replace this one as it had the white spots minorly, but they let him keep it. After giving it to a now ex for a while the screen is really wobbly so i figured he could turn it into a movie/music jukebox for home
 
you could probably sell it and buy a first gen imac g5.

oh and is this a tibook or an albook?

it's an early albook. it needs some major work on the screen though, it's out of use till something happens to it
 
i have white spots on my ibook and it really dose not bother me, it's barely visible front on, i just think you would be better off fixing it up than crippling it by turning it into a desktop

but he has another better powerbook, and he wouldn't just be taking away mobility he'd be adding storage space and ports
