So this morning I must have been doing too many things at once when my trusty 12" Powerbook bought 4 years ago told me it must be hard-restarted. No problem I thought, since I have had this message come up before. But this time no matter how many times I restarted, it would not fully boot up into OSX. So I tried all sorts of things from taking out 3rd party RAM to resetting PRAM and NVRAM, but all to no avail. I did a hardware check on it and the result was:

Video Ram Error Detected
Error code: 2NYD/1/4: 2122

So knowing that this is soldered onto the logic board, I figured it definitely was the end of its life. I backed all my documents and such up via Firewire Target Disk Mode.

Now time to make a decision:

I went to the genius bar, and they said that since the machine is less than 5yrs old, they can still replace everything that needs replacing for a flat fee of $310. This was better than what I was expecting, but it may still be worth puting that money towards a new mac at the moment since the PB was definitely being bogged down with what I need to do. I will have to start from scratch anyways even if I get the PB fixed. So what do you think? Even if I get a new mac, I would still like to get the PB fixed just to have it work rather than be a paperweight, but I wouldn't have to do that right away.
