The Powerbook in my sig has it's paint peeling/scratching off very easily. It's on the little area right below the keyboard, troth like area. I'm guessing my nails are hitting and scratching it, it just scratches away like it's nothing. You can see the shiny alum underneath. It's under AppleCare but I don't know if this would be covered. Is there anyone selling anything to cover this? New paint, or I actually wouldn't mind having some vinyl to cover it with.

Applecare won't cover it; it's cosmetic.

Get a silver sharpie and see if the colours match.

Mine is peeling too. I'm thinking of scraping ALL of it off, so it matches.. :p

MBP's are losing their logo lettering... they peel off where it says MacBook Pro you can lose an "o" or an "r" ... and eventually all of them:(

A little search would have brought up this thread:

It is not covered by apple care because apple doesn't cover cosmetic damage.

I just purchased one of these as suggested in that thread:

I really like this product. It is well worth the price. Your laptop will only get worse if you don't do something about it.
Just to mention, this isn't anything like the ol pitting issue. This is like the paint just being too thin and being scratched off too easy.

I noticed my PB had a few scratches. They were very thin and I thought it was from my watch or ring or something. Within 4 months, those scratches grew into an entire missing section about 1 inch by 2 inches and another about .5 inches by 3 inches. Don't rule out the possibility that this may be happening to you too.

Any by the way, there is no paint on the PB. It's just solid polished aluminum.

no, I think you're thinking about the palmrest area...
He's taking about the little trough between the spacebar and the top of the palm rest area. (I'd take a pic, but good ol' 12-day-old camera is OFF FOR WARRANTY! )
It's about a 1/4 inch tall, spans the width of the keyboard and is really shallow.

This part is definitely paint.. mine came off with a little iKlear. (accidental, but now I'm removing all of it, so it looks more normal.)

^^
I understand now. Well, look on the bright side, some of us have it a lot worse. My right palm rest is terrible. My left speaker and just below it is terrible. Between my space bar and the track pad is getting worse. Right below my track pad is getting worse.
