Powerbook Pismo charger question

Hi everyone,

I recently rescued a Powerbook Pismo from the recycle bin at work but I don't have a power adapter to plug in to see if it works. I tried my Powerbook G4 power adapter to see if it works but it was too small (!!!), I always thought they were the same size...things you learn!

Anyways, can anyone out there recommend the least expensive option for a charger that works with the Pismo? Does the old G3 Ibook charger work? I used to have one of those and it "seems" like they were the same size, but I've never owned a Pismo before so this is new to me.

Also if anyone out there has an extra charger they would want to trade for something Mac related that would be great, I'm getting quite the collection of older Macs that I'm trying to rescue so I "might" have something you need for one of your Macs?

The old iBook G3 charger indeed should work! In fact, it works with my PowerBook 1400 as well.

Beware! There are 2 versions of the Apple m7332 charger which look similar but have different sized plugs like you mentioned. I accidentally bought a G4-type-plug version when I needed to pick one up for my G3 clamshell. Ended up buying the correct one after that and keeping both in case I find a G4 sooner or later. Why Apple decided to keep the model number the same is beyond me. They were around $20 each used on ebay. Here is a couple of pics, perhaps they could be useful if you go the ebay route:

In theory, yes! There is a certain model of PowerBook G3 charger that was recalled due to being a fire hazard though, so look out for those.

Wow, thanks so much for the heads up..I didn't know there was a different version of the hockey puck charger! It looks like I need to find the larger of the two.

I wonder if there ever was an adapter to allow the two sizes to interchange, much like the adaptor Apple sells to allow the old smaller magsafe charger work with the newer larger Magsafe laptops? If so that would be hand to find and I could use my existing G4 chargers I bet....

I think I remember seeing an old ad for G3-size-barrel to G4 adapter when I was doing research after I bought the first one a year ago. I think it was discontinued but the images/product information was still up. I did a few quick searches for but was unable to find it, maybe with some more digging perhaps...

Btw I think a few people have moded the G4 type to work with the G3 on YouTube as I think they share the same power specifications if I remember correctly.

Hope you get that Pismo running soon, so glad you saved it from recycling!
