Powerbook sound problems...

Does any one here use a preamp to boost the signal/ sound quality coming from their headphone port?

I have a PB G4 12" Rev. A that I hook up to this guy:

via a 1/8" to 2xRCA, and I'm a little disappointed with the sound quality. I upgraded the speaker wire, but it still sounds awful on the low end. I know this certainly isn't the best set of speakers, but my living room is not that big and I'm sure things could be better.

i use the audio out from an ibook straight into an amp, no probs. using i tunes you can flaff about a bit with the eq. but home thatre amps, in my experience give reletivly piss poor sound quality if you play a cd (for example through them. I recently boughjt a Marantz SR5400 which cost about £400.00 sound quality nowhere near as good as an equilivent costing stereo amp. Sounds fine with dvdSurround etc

I just connected my PB to my stereo (1/8" -> RCA) last night. Sounded damn well good to me.
