PowerBook starts to boot and powers off right away, yet works fine minutes later

Hello,
My PB 15'' works fine and 90% of the time boots normally, but lately it has been turning off as soon as i reopen it and when i try and boot the HD spins and the chime plays for 1/2 a second then powers off completely. it then does not respond for a few minutes only to boot up correctly. it just happened and the battery is at 2 hours remaining so it isnt dead.
