powerbook stuck on grey screen

i just ran the software update on my powerbook and installed the itunes and quicktime updates and 10.4.4. it then asked me to restart my computer, so i did. now, it is on the grey load up screen and has been for the past 30 minutes. is this normal? what shoud i do?

Restart and hold down Command V, then see where it stops.

i just restarted by holding down the power buttonn and started it back up and it works fine. is it bad for the computer to do that?

Erm, yeah it's generally not great for the computer, especially after restarts. Unplug all peripherals and maybe give fsck a go. You may also need to reinstall 10.4.4 if you get problems down the track but hopefully everything will be working properly now.

Did you install anything prior to shutting down the computer?
