I have a 17" PowerBook G4. I am looking at getting an external desplay. Does anyone know if I can use the display with my powerbook closed? Or do I have to keep my laptop open? Thanks!

It is possible, there are programs out there that will allow you to to keep the powerbook awake with the clamshell closed. HOWEVER, I wouldn't recommend doing it, as it will create head dissipation issues. The PB's already run a bit on the warm side, so restricting its ability to get rid of heat is not the greatest idea. but to each his own.

You can run the powerbook perfectly with the screen closed, no software needed. Just hit the spacebar or click the mouse a bit when it's closed and it'll wake up. I ran my powerbook in clamshell mode for a long time. If you're paranoid of it affecting the screen, put a cloth there to protect it or just run it with the screen open. I'm sure you'll be fine though.

Just to be sure you get it. You need to have an external mouse and KB, wired or wireless.;)
