Im thinking about buying a new 12" powerbook, but i have heard that the you have to be in the same room as the router for the Internet to work is this true? I also wanted to know if the powerbook will work with the microsoft router that i have.

No, and Yes.

It will NOT have to be in the same room. People exaggerate and say it has worse reception than the iBook, but it's only a little less.

Yes, it will connect to your wireless router.

I am rarely ever in the room with the router (two different houses, Airport Extreme, and Linksy routers). Sometimes I have 5-6 walls/floors in the way and I still have a very usable connection. I always have a wireless conection that is faster than my DSL connection. I rarely ever see all four bars but the connection is fine.

The PowerBooks reception is not the best, but it isn't as bad as you fear.
