Powerbook wont shut down!!

My 15" Powerbook will not shut down. I clicked on shut down and nothing happened. I then logged off but now it just sits there with just the background no finder. I took out the battery but no dice it is just stuck with only the leopard background on screen. Please help!!!

Did you try the power button?

i got it working now after leaving the battery out for awhile. But what would cause it to freeze at the login screen like it did?

What did you have connected at the time?

I had issues with a FW drive causing the same thing to happen on my MB.
