I was installing some updates into my computer when it crashed. I then tried to start it up again, i hear the start up sound but then all i see is a blank screen with the apple logo, it just stays that was and never loads up.

I have run it with the start up disk and managed to get into the computer to run a utilities check, to which it said 'repair and verified failed'

i am really worried i will lose all the photos on my computer as they are not backed up and are very very important to me. what do you suggest for me. i could really really do with some advice...
cheers

open it
remove HD
attach to external enclosure
copy **** you want to keep
install new HD or replace old one
reinstall

or just check the HD cable hasn't come loose from the motherboard....
