Powered Optical drives?

My dad has a powerbook w/ a busted dvd drive. I was wondering if a powered cd or dvd drive existed. Maybe firewire? If not, just a slim external drive? We need a cheap optical drive to use for it, its not really worth replacing the internal one.

I found some nice slim firewire cdrw's by VST, I'll probably end up getting one if I can't find a basic firewire cd.

Check on eBay. They often have pretty good used external firewire CD drives. Also check out ClubMac, they have new external firewire CD-RW drive that has 52X Write / 24X Re-Write / 52X Read performance and costs $130.
