PowerMac G3 Beige Dies upon OS install

Hi, I was experimenting with a collectible PowerMac G3 beige 266mhz desktop. It was booting to OS 9.2. I decided to try to install OSX 10.1. After booting from the CD, the screen quickly flased to red, then black. After that, the mac didn't hit a lick. I tried resetting it by pressing the CUDA, pulling the batter, taking out all periperials, trying new RAM, reseating the processor, EVERYTHING. No startup Bong, no power LED. Any help will be appreceiated. Thanks.

I seem to recall (and bear in mind that this was a long time ago) that G3s required a firmware update prior to installing OSX, or this would happen.
