Hello,

After to have read lot of interesting things here, I registred to ask some questions...

One of them is about the G3 Rev1. If I buy a cmd pci646U2-402 and replace the cmd 646U2 with it, is it enough to have the ide bus working reliable with more than one device on one chanel or is there more differences than that IC in the rev2 motherboard ?
I am willing to replace that IC with the newer one if there is a chance it will work.

Thank you for the reply/advice.

Possibly. I have not heard of anyone making this motherboard modification though.

Have you experienced the problem with the 646U2? In other words, if you make the change to the pci646U2-402, will you be able to determine if the new chip improves the behaviour?

I have a rev1 with the 646U2 so I bought an ACARD 6280M. I have a dump of the rev1 firmware. I think the rev2 has the same firmware?

Sorry for the late reply. I got the G3 from my friend and he told me there was something but he can't remember exactly what.... He disconected the ZIP drive..
Until now it's working well but it has only one device on each IDE port. I still did not test with a second.
I just patched the firmware on an adaptec sata pci card with an 0S9 patcher app I found on another forum...
Now, I must say, I may forgot about the IDE... It's well faster than the G3 ATA... So, I do not know if it's worth replacing the 646U2 now...
