PowerMac G4 - cd drive makes grinding noises

My gf used this G4 for 2.5 years with no issues at all. Recently she got an intel imac, and now we're selling the G4. Right now I'm reinstalling OS X, but the cd drive is making these loud grinding noises that it has never made before. It's reading the cd just fine, but I'm worried nonetheless, especially because we are about to sell this thing.

This is bad, isn't it? Is the drive dying?

I had that, i ended up having to replace the drive because a part of the spindal chipped off and was vibrating and casing other things to clink.
