Hello, I DJ off of my macs, I have a G4 PowerBook 1.5GHZ computer. it is starting to feel a bit doggy with my software.(Torq) I am looking to get a machine, desktop or notebook, that would be faster for relatively cheap. I have been eying up the PowerMac G4 DP models.

Would a DP 1GHZ model G4 Give me significant improvement in performance?

does Running Leopard VS. Tiger see any different performance on a G4 1.5 GHZ?

any insight would be helpful.

thanks.

Now I don't know particulars with this software but you'd probably be better off getting a used Intel Mac (such as a Mac Mini) for a similar price to a used PowerMac. That would be a ton faster than those G4s.

Agreed, an intel core duo Mac Mini would be the most cost effective way to go unless you need portability then an older generation MacBook would suit you. You can find both of those for around the same as a G4 PowerMac.

Switching to an old MacBook could be a good choice - it can last you longer than a G4 DP. I hear Torq's Universal so it will work nicely with your new old Intel Mac.
