Hi

I am looking at getting a PowerMac G4 from ebay... it will be dual either 867, 1k, or 1.25GHZ. I have a 500GB SATA and 2GB DDR 400 waiting.

I do alot of video encoding, be DVD to AVI, AVI to DVD, DVD/AVI iPhone/iPod, and I do all of this on my MacBook 3,1. I would like a standalone box to do this for me to free up my MacBook for other stuff.

How would the above do when encoding video? Currently an AVI to DVD is taking me about 20-40 mins depening on quality etc. I dont expect to see anything like this with the G4 but are we talking 4 hours plus?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of money are you looking to spend. I can recommend a machine based on your price range. The G4 is pretty slow when it comes to video encoding, however if you are converting video for your iPod, I highly recommend Turbo.264 (which I use daily). With the Turbo.264 and the software provided I could convert an AVI to iPod Format in real time.

Let me know and I can help you out!!!
