powermac g4 when it put it to sleep it shuts down?

Hey guys i have a powermac g4 that is running fine, but when i click on the apple sign and tell it to go to sleep. It goes into sleep mode and then after that shuts down. Is this normal, I think it might be a setting a have to change but I am unsure because this is my first mac.

You might want to try resetting its PMU:

i did that and it worked for a couple days but now it is dying again, could it be the battery?

If you left the battery in when you pressed the PMU switch, you may have flattened it anyway. But if the battery was expired, your clock would be showing the year as 1970 or similar.

I suspect you've now discovered the reason why the other person sold it, it needs a replacement logic board.

They're pretty cheap on ebay now and easy to swap out on G4s, so it's not as big an issue as it sounds.
