PowerMac G5 Specs :

1.8ghz Uni Core G5 Processor
2gb RAM
80gb HDD
iLife '09
iWork '09
Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard (And Retail Leopard Discs In Box!)

I think it's a great deal, what do you think? I was actually originally looking at 1.5ghz Uni Intel Mac Mini's for around £220-£250 ($350-$400) but then I found this!

I'd say its pretty fair. I got a pair of 2.0 dual G5 powermancs for $123 each last summer but that was without HDD and only 1GB of memory. The Mini can be upgraded to a much faster Core 2 Duo which would support 10.6 and 10.7 but out of the box that G5 will be faster than a non upgraded mini.

The Core Solo 1.5GHz mini does have ~30% higher GeekBench scores than the 1.8GHz G5 though. But the mini is limited by the GMA 950 and 2GB RAM limit.

I'd probably hold out for the mini, assuming the OP isn't planning on gaming. As you mentioned, the fact that a Core2Duo can be dropped in for ~£40 is also a major bonus.

I've now just found a DUAL 2ghz PowerMac G5 with 2gb RAM, 80gb HDD and Leopard for £150 ($240)

This may sound stupid, but I love the look of the PowerMac G5's. I am swaying towards the G5, I also like the fact of the un-clippable door for the upgrades. If I were to go with the G5, I'd stick a 1tb HDD in it and max out the RAM, and get a decent graphics card aswell. :D :apple:

That sounds like a good deal to me. I thought I was good asking $297 for a dual 1.8 with 8gbs and 250gb HDD in NYC - craigslist not panning out so far however.

I would buy an Intel machine over any G5 unless you have something very specific.

If you are getting the G5, the dual core ones were a lot quieter than the dual processor ones (I had both). The dual processor G5 I had was the most unstable and overall the worst Mac I ever owned. I really regretted that machine.

Ya go for the dual 2.0. I misread your OP and thought the 1.8 was a dual processor model. I would not pay that much for a single CPU.

I'm selling a G5 on gumtree at the moment for £150, same spec, dual 2.0ghz, etc but mine has 5gb ram. I don't have the box anymore so can't be posted (well, it can but I don't trust royal mail not to try to use it as a football) If you can collect and are interested I can pm you the details and a link to the gumtree post with pics and list of installed software, etc.
