I have 3 macs and 4 hard drives, and the only one with capacity for 2 of them is the Powermac (the other two being an iMac DV and an iBook G3). I have the old iMac drive full with important files and wish to know if there is a way to install an ATA/100 drive on the PMG5.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Drives in a G5 must be SATA.

'S 'AT All?

Yep...

You may be able to find a PCI card (Sonnet Tempo, maybe) that will let you install your ATA drive or buy a external firewire enclosure & put it in there.

Maybe you might be able to temporarily hook it up to the DVD bus but I doubt that...

EDIT: The better suggestion above by the estimable robbieduncan is far more elegant and may be what you are looking for.

Thank you Mr. Duncan, a nice piece of equipment...

But a firewire enclosure will retail for about the same price, and would make it portable...

Note that you may well be able to get similar converters cheaper. I've seen them given away with motherboards and SATA controller cards in the UK...
